Reporting

We produce fundamentally clear  to interpret, comprehensive and to the point reports. We don't lose ourselves in technical jargon or unnecessary reproductions of technical guidance; it's not our style.

If it's not worth saying, we don't say it.

We don't just form an opinion. We prove it.

Arboricultural Impact Assessments & Method Statements

Aspect can assist in preparing Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIA) and Method statements (AMS) in accordance with BS5837:2012, informed by a comprehensive tree survey.

Tree surveys and related Arboricultural reports are crucial for planning submissions, with some local authorities requiring an Arboricultural report to accompany planning applications. At the planning stage, demonstrating that existing trees have been properly assessed and that trees prioritised for retention are incorporated into the design can significantly support the development application.

The process is broken down into three key stages:

  1. conducting an initial tree survey and creating a tree constraints drawing that details both below and above ground constraints
  2. overlaying the architect’s proposed layout with the tree survey to assess the relationship between the development proposals and existing tree stock. This step involves collaboration with the client and architect to suggest any layout adjustments and address tree-related concerns
  3. once the final layout is agreed upon, preparing the AIA or AMS document for submission with the planning application.

Our Goal is to maximise development potential while ensuring that the proposals are both supportable and justifiable from an Arboricultural perspective.

Woodland Management Plan

With a focus on sustainable forest management principles, we have extensive experience in producing detailed reports, plans, and proposals for a variety of woodlands, catering to diverse management objectives.

In addition to Woodland Management Plans, we offer woodland stock assessments and provide specifications for tree works, following the guidance set by the British Standard Institute. We also conduct tree risk assessment surveys to ensure the safety and health of woodland areas.

CAVAT Assessment

A CAVAT assessment, which stands for "Capital Asset Value for Amenity Trees" is a method used to determine the monetary value of a tree in a public space, particularly considering its amenity value, allowing for the calculation of compensation in cases of tree damage or removal and aiding in strategic tree management decisions within a community or area; it is widely used in the UK by local authorities and Arboricultural consultants.

When conducting a CAVAT assessment, factors like tree species, size, canopy spread, health condition, accessibility, visual prominence, and the surrounding environment are taken into account.

CAVAT is commonly used in situations like:

  • Planning applications where tree removal is proposed
  • Legal disputes involving tree damage
  • Urban forest management strategies to understand the value of existing tree stocks

Ellen Courtney-Thompson BA(Hons)

Ellen is unique in that she can bring us into the 21st century, away from a world of wood. And roots. And into one of something called the interweb? She also has a background in fine art and design, which means she is more than qualified to advise us on how to make trees look good and to tell people what we do well, in a way that is visually appealing. She's also got quite a lot of sass, can keep up with the guys in the office, and is one of the few people that can get Bosun to behave – even when he’s testing the boundaries and tries to put his paw in her mouth…

Outside of work, he likes to entertain his family with his "legendary" guitar solos, "virtuoso" piano performances, and unparalleled air guitar skills—though they might describe it more as enthusiastic noise-making. Gavlar can often be found scurrying towards the buffet at a Christmas do and makes a mean cup of tea. Gavlar’s been carrying the Team since 2013.
