Ground Investigation and Trial Pits

Further ground investigation may be required to verify the full extent of the Root Protection Area and quantify the true impact within the RPA. This can be achieved by manually excavating trial pits within the RPA and recording the size and location of roots over 25mm in diameter.

The results from the trial pit can be plotted into a technical drawing to accurately illustrate and quantify the impact on the RPA. The previously plotted RPA can then be amended using the trial pit findings which can potentially reduce the constraint of the previous RPA. These results can be presented to the local planning authority’s tree officer in the form of a technical drawing and report.
